Widespan shelving has benefited from continuous development to increase its versatility and adaptability. Wide access bays ensure maximum shelf utilisation which is vital in document storage. Tyre and garment storage also rely on the high density capabilities offered by Widespan. In museums and art galleries where the facility to select individual artefacts is balanced by the need to maximise limited storage space, Widespan on mobile bases is the ideal solution.
Uprights are produced from cold rolled 1.37mm steel strip to BS 1449. The profile has 10 folds to ensure strength and rigidity from a post that is only 56mm wide. The 50mm slot pattern for beam connection and adjustment is on the reverse side of the upright, leaving the front face clear of any perforations and back-to-back bays can be easily adjusted. Standard beam sections available in spans from 1200mm to 3000mm. Beams are manufactured from cold rolled section that is HR.PO 1/2 hard to BS 1449. Rigidity and stability is achieved through a three tongued connector welded to each end of the beam section. The connectors locate into the slot pattern on the reverse face of the upright and ensure that the shelf load is transmitted down the upright. To prevent accidental dislodgement of the beam during use, a locking pin is inserted into each beam connector. Steel shelves or chipboard sit within stepped beams, this arrangement presents a neater appearance and we believe that operatives prefer to work with a smarter looking system.
Widespan frames can also be used in conjunction with tubular beams as garment hanging racks. Retail stockrooms, uniform stores and historical garment stores in museums have been fitted out with Garmex. This cost effective solution has the distinct advantage of having adjustable beam levels, so as seasonal stock arrives, the hanging beams can be repositioned to accommodate the garments. When Garmex is fitted with conventional beams and shelves, flat pack and boxed items can be stored as well as hanging garments.
Another Widespan variant is Tyrespan which is used to store car and commercial tyres. Installations can be single-tier, oversailing floors or multi-tier.
High-bay and multi-tier options are invaluable alternatives to the single tier static and mobile arrangements. With the added bonus of a range of beam profiles, easily adjusted shelf levels and a smooth front face Widespan is both attractive and flexible. A storage system designed for the future, for use today.
