The automotive industry is unique in that it needs to store a wide variety of components in a fast moving environment. Parts vary in size from an indicator bulb to a body panel or a complex exhaust system. A single shelving system would not have the ability to effectively store such a diverse range of items. To meet the needs of the specialist automotive parts dealership Metalrax, in collaboration with the Automotive Industry, developed Automet.
A typical Automet installation would incorporate pallet racking for engines and gearboxes, wide-access shelving for moulded body panels such as wrap-around bumpers, adjustable steel shelving for body panels and glass and plastic containers for small items. Specially adapted wide access bays for exhausts are also available. Lockable cabinets would be used to store valuable in-car entertainment equipment and engine management systems.
Metalrax has extensive experience in managing single and multi-tier Automet projects from the consultation and audit stage to the initial design, through manufacture to installation and to final commissioning. An Automet storage system could be either single-tier or, as often is the case in automotive parts distribution centres, a multi-tier installation. Each project is custom designed to meet the client’s specific needs and to comply with all relevant Local Authority Building Regulations. As part of our complete service, Metalrax will make all applications on the client’s behalf, including the production of drawings and structural calculations, to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.
As an ISO 9001 accredited company and a founder member of the Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association (S.E.M.A.) Metalrax promote and adhere to the design standards set out in the Association's Interim Code of Practice for low-rise and high-rise static steel shelving and mobile shelving.
