By working in close co-operation with the client and the other contractors, Metalrax Storage were able to ensure that the project was completed on time, to the required specification, and with the minimum disruption to production operations.

The unusual and diverse nature of the museum’s artefacts made this project one of the most challenging in Metalrax Storage long association with the Heritage sector.

The successful conclusion of this unique project was due to an understanding of the museum’s long-term aims, the close working relationship between the client and supplier and the suitability and quality of the storage solution.

The shelving supplied meets the requirements of BS5454 and allows high-capacity storage together with easy access and visual inspection to all areas of the collection.

A combination of static and mobile shelving was the only viable solution. To make best use of the available head room, shelving bays up to 3.3 metres high were mounted on to mobile bases that were fitted with locks to prevent accidental movement and to provide security.

The Main Contractor was working to a very precise schedule and, despite difficult routes to access the site, Metalrax Storage ensured that the project was completed on time.

The Metalrax Storage project team worked in close collaboration with B.S.M. personnel to ensure an effective transition from a clear site to a fully working, efficient Parts Department within the specified time scale.

Metalrax Storage worked closely with Medical Records Officer, Mary Carradine and Architect, Tony Harwood to create a layout to maximise the number of records stored yet maintain easy access for staff  to facilitate effective filing and retrieval of documents.

Using the latest CAD technology, the Metalrax Storage project team was able to recommend the most economical and space efficient solution which involved over 50 different bay elevations.

Metalrax Storage incorporated 3 different types of map storage units, special pull out reference shelves within the mobile shelving bays and a unique box/book support bracket to comply with BS5454.
