The Client.
VINCI PLC forms part of VINCI, the world’s leading concession and construction group. VINCI has a turnover in excess of £1billion and 164,000 employees in 90 countries around the world. A number of specialist businesses operating throughout the UK enable VINCI PLC to offer a comprehensive construction package from inception, through ground investigation and remediation, to completion of the project and beyond to the maintenance of the facility. VINCI PLC were the chosen main contractor on a project for the RAF to construct a brand new facility.
The Challenge.
As part of a major construction project the Royal Air Force had to provide a storage facility to house valuable musical instruments and sheet music at a new, purpose built facility. Metalrax Storage was selected as the preferred supplier based on a combination of factors. These included the storage solution proposed and the ability to liaise between the end user and the main contractor. This facility enabled VINCI PLC to pass the design aspect of the project to Metalrax Storage confident in the knowledge that the end user would be negotiating the layout and product selection to exactly meet their needs.
The Solution.
metalraxstorage liaised with the end user to establish a working solution including Widespan and QB2 shelving for musical instrument storage and Capital mobile shelving to accommodate the vast amount of sheet music used by over 170 musicians. The three shelving systems proposed were the perfect solution because of the adjustability of the shelf levels which was an important factor to future proof the installation.
The end user supplied an inventory of musical instruments to be housed in five separate rooms. Metalrax Storage used this data to, effectively and efficiently, allocate a place for each and every instrument, ranging from a piccolo to a tuba. The sheet music was housed in Capital shelving mounted onto mobile bases. This high-density solution maximises the storage volume but still allows easy access to the contents. High-density shelving forms part of the buyingsolutions framework which is held by Metalrax Storage.
