The Client.
Lookers is one of the UK’s leading motor retail and distribution groups.
The Challenge.
When Lookers Liverpool moved into their purpose built Showroom and Service Centre, they took the opportunity to review their storage facilities. They wanted to improve the way they stored and picked parts and to reduce the floor area as much as possible. A Metalrax Storage project team was engaged to address the logistical problems in the Parts Storage, Tyre Storage, Archive Storage and Workshop Tool Storage areas.
The Solution.
Working closely with the Parts Manager and senior staff members, Metalrax Storage proposed a cost effective Two Tier shelving layout using the QB2 Automet Storage System which would offer increased storage capacity within the designated area and provide maximum flexibility.
The QB2 Automet Storage System provided for:-
- Small Parts components to be located in steel drawers and on shelves with dividers, offering precise locations with improved picking.
- Medium and large sized components to be stored on shelves with fixed height dividers.
- Body panels and bumpers to be stored in racks specifically designed to facilitate easy access and to reduce damage.
- Exhausts to be stored in racks, allowing operatives to hang the components individually, resulting in easy access to sections and minimising entanglement normally associated with exhaust storage.
- Mats and garments to be hung on Automet rail units.
- Wheels to be stored in Automet wheel storage bays, allowing individual selection.
The QB2 Automet Storage System was the client’s preferred choice because of it’s flexibility, quality and performance.
Mr Steve Hughes, Parts Department Manager of Lookers Liverpool commented, “We are very impressed with the installation. It gives us the right component in the right place, with minimum travel distances and maximum flexibility to customise the system as and when we need to. House keeping has also improved and we have the capacity for growth if needed”.
