Metalrax Storage worked closely with the Court Manager and staff to ensure the system worked for them and not only to meet but to exceeded their expectations.

CourtMobileThe Client.

Her Majesty’s Courts Service is an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice. Their remit is to deliver justice effectively and efficiently to the public. They are responsible for managing the Magistrates’ Courts, the Crown Court, County Courts, the High Court and Court of Appeal in England and Wales.

The amount of paperwork and files generated needs to be stored in a secure environment yet remain accessible throughout the working day. Lost or mis-filed files would have serious, negative consequences.

The Challenge.

When a court moved to a newly refurbished building they needed a new storage system for their documents and case files. The system had to store various different types of paper files, court files and records. Due to the sensitive nature of the files, the storage system had to be secure and meet the H.M. Courts Service’s health and safety standards.

The Solution.

As a Buying Solutions accredited supplier, Metalrax Storage was invited to tender for the project. Prior to winning the order from H.M. Courts Service a full filing survey was carried out to fully understand the court’s needs. By utilising CAD generated layout drawings metalraxstorage was able to show how and where the files would be stored in the new system. This gave the Court Manager the confidence that Metalrax Storage could carry out the project to their specifications.

Metalrax Storage installed both static and mobile shelving into the Courts Services building. To address the security issue, a single sided run of static shelving was installed to one end of the mobile system to ensure it was closed off and a secure key locking system used. All hand wheels were also fitted with aisle locks to meet H.M. Courts Services health and safety standards. Solid steel backs were fitted between the runs of back-to-back bays of shelving to eradicate file migration.

The in-fill flooring between the roller tracks was lowered by 8mm to accommodate floor tiles to match the office flooring. Decorative end-panels were fitted to co-ordinate the shelving with other office furniture. The shelving and the mobile bases were painted in the H.M. Courts Service’s standard ivory colour. The overall effect was a visually integrated system providing a secure and efficient storage facility.

Whilst on site Metalrax Storage worked with the main contractor to help co-ordinate the building programme and even to advise on the type and position of the office lighting. Metalrax Storage worked closely with the Court Manager and staff to ensure the system worked for them and not only to meet but to exceeded their expectations.
