The Client.
Bristol Street Motors originated in the early 1900’s as a single Ford dealership located on Bristol Street in central Birmingham. Since those early days the business has grown to become one of the largest dealer groups in the UK with a nationwide chain of franchised motor dealerships.
The Challenge.
The Newcastle-under-Lyme branch of Bristol Street Motors acquired a property with an ideal forecourt and showroom but a less than adequate Parts Department. The area designated to serve counter sales and the workshop was a 12 metre high void with two perimeter galleries at approximately 4 metres and 8 metres. B.S.M. required a functional storage solution to store in excess of 10000 line items, designed, installed and commissioned within 4 weeks of the order being placed, to enable the operation to open on the planned date.
The Solution.
Metalrax Storage was chosen to design and install a three tier shelving system within the 12 metre high void with access and extended storage at the gallery levels. The proposed system was Automet, created specifically to efficiently store motor components. Standard bays were fitted with specialist accessories to house a wide range of components from light bulbs to wrap around body bumpers and from cables to windscreens. The flexibility of Automet ensures that any future changes to stock levels and product mix can be easily accommodated.
The Metalrax Storage project team worked in close collaboration with B.S.M. personnel to ensure an effective transition from a clear site to a fully working, efficient Parts Department within the specified time scale.
